History
|
:
|
The PSU Bayambang Campus had a very humble
beginning. It started as the Bayambang Normal School in 1922. It offered then
the secondary normal course which prepared much needed teachers for the
country. The school closed in 1935 due to inadequate funds but re-opened in
1948 under a new name – the Pangasinan Normal School (PNS), which offered the
two – year teacher education program. It was one among the first normal
schools in the Philippines. It was in 1952 that the college offered the four
– year degree in teacher education for elementary teachers by virtue of RA
No. 975. In 1953, the school with elementary schools in the District of
Bautista and the Bayambang National High School were merged to become the
Philippine UNESCO Community Training Center. It operated as a school division
then. Republic Act No. 5705 converted the school into a chartered institution
– the then Central Luzon Teachers College on June 1969.
The Pangasinan State University Bayambang Campus is
also among the constituent campuses of the University to actively house a
Laboratory High School (a school under the College of Teacher Education;
serves as training ground for future HS Teachers) which dates its history by
its then – name, Central Luzon Teachers College. The Pangasinan State
University Laboratory High School offers secondary education in Science
Curriculum. The School also offered Basic Education Curriculum until March
2010. Batch 2010 – 2011 Seniors was the first batch of the school in years to
graduate from an all – science curriculum enabled sectioning. It also was the
first batch to graduate from an all – single section per year system which
was decided upon dating back on 2007. The batch makes history in being the
first batch to hold graduation rites in the first ever Integrated Closing
Exercises which houses both the LHS and KD – ELS (Kindergarten Department –
Elementary Laboratory School) in one Closing Ceremony. The Ceremony was
successful, uniting the two laboratory schools of the Campus; KD – ELS and
LHS.

1.4 Materials
and other learning sources
Everyday they will use books based on Philippines
Curriculum (K12) and their schedule subject. Sometimes to modified the learning
process, some teachers use music video from youtube. In terms of their
facilities, they have accessible library and laboratories which have complete
equipment and resources.
1.5 Measurement
and evaluation system
Same with in Indonesia, there are also
some evaluation for the pupils to evaluate the learning process. It will be
held twice for one semester, such as middle semester and final semester. In
elementary school there is also final examination for grade 6. For the
preschool, everyday the teacher will collect all the students worksheet and
make some portofolio for each students.
There is also evaluation in
kindergarten, they used K12 book to evaluate the pupils learning process for
that day. The measurement for the kindergarten same as in Indonesia, the
teacher look for the development process of the pupils. So for the evaluation,
the teacher doesn't give score for the pupils, she just give a big/small star
for that day.
1.6 Curriculum
The curriculum that available in this
school is K12, it comes from Ministry of Education in Philippines. The subject
for grade 1-6 in this elementary school such as Mother Tounge, Filipino,
English, Mathematic, Science, Araling Panlipuan, Edukasyon Sa Pagpapakatao,
Music, Arts, Physical Education, Health, Edukasyong Pantahanan At
Pangkabuhayan, Livehood Education.
The Kindergarten Curriculum Framework
(KCF) draws from the goals of the K to 12 Philippine Basic Education Curriculum
Framework and adopts the general principles of the National Early Learning
Framework (NELF). Kindergarten learners need to have a smooth transition to the
content-based curriculum of Grades 1 to 12.
The items in rectangles in Figure 1 show
the theoretical bases for teaching-learning in the early years, which are
founded on constructivism, integrative, thematic, collaborative, inquiry–based,
and reflective teaching in play-based approaches with application of the
Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP); these support the principles of
child growth and development, and the learning program development and
assessment.
The circles, on the other hand, signify
the system of how Kindergarten Education is to be employed. The interlocked
ellipses represent the learning domains that have to be nurtured and equally imparted
to holistically develop children. It also forms a flower that portrays the
gradual unfolding but steady development, as is expected of every child. The
child is seen as being in the process of blossoming – like a flower bud whose
development should not be forced lest it lose its chance to fully mature. The
domains are enclosed by the Learning Areas children will meet in Grade One
onward, for which they are being prepared. The outermost layer indicates the
Curricular Themes upon which the Kindergarten Curriculum Guide (KCG) or the
Teacher’s Guide is designed. It has been crafted using the thematic or
integrative approach to curriculum development in a spiralling learning
process. This approach employs integerative and interactive teaching-learning
strategies as well as child-centered learning experiences.
Same as in Indonesia, there are also
domain development in the preschool curriculum, such as Socio-Emotional
Development (Pagpapaunlad ng Sosyo-Emosyunal at Kakayahang Makipamuhay), Values
Development (Kagandahang Asal), Physical Health & Motor Development
(Kalusugang Pisikal at Pagpapaunlad sa Kakayahang Motor), Aesthetic/Creative
Development (Sining), Mathematics, Understanding of the Physical and Natural
Environment, Language, Literacy, and Communication. So in the preschool, there
will be integrated subject.
This picture show curricular themes for
the preschool (kindergarten and nursery), these curricular themes adhere to
Bronfenbrenner’s Bio-ecological theory that defines “layers of environment,
each having an effect on a child’s holistic development.”.
1. Myself
- concepts and ideas that help the learners understand himself/ herself better
so that he/she will develop as an individual
2. My
Family - concepts, ideas, practices that guide the child to be responsible and
proud of himself and his family
3. My
School - concepts, ideas, practices, and situations that help the child
understand how to be an individual and socialize with other learners, teachers,
and other school personnel
4. My
Community- concepts, ideas, practices, situations, and responsibilities that
the learner should acquire and understand so that he/she will a become
functional and responsive member of the community
5. More
Things Around Me - all other concepts, ideas, practices, situations, and
responsibilities beyond themes 1 to 4, but which may be relevant to the
community, culture, and interest of the learner
In this preschool, there are blocks of
time and lesson plan for the teaching plan. The blocks of time that they used
in this school is same as lesson plan that available in Indonesia.
Pedagogical Contents
2.1 Teaching
methods
The teaching methods
that some teachers use are variative and uniqe. Some of the teachers can call
the pupils attention and the pupils very enthusiastic. Teacher gives their best
to use the best teaching methods in classroom teaching. Some teachers use technologies
such as computer presentations for discussion the lesson, providing activities, and sometimes the
teachers make some quiz using their own computer. They often provide group
activities, psychomotor activities, and problem-solving or discovery activities.
2.2 Learning
materials and innovation
Based on my
observation, the teachers use some materials to improve the student’s skill,
for example through art activity, the teacher provide so much colour papper
then the pupils have a chance to decorate the papper. So, the teacher doesn’t
only use worksheet in the book to evaluate the pupils learning process.
2.3 Sources
of learning and technology
They use book also
internet access for the sources of learning activities. For example, they will
learn about ‘sound of things’, then the teacher engage the pupils to read the
book, after that the pupils also learn to hear the sound of things using the
computer. Sometimes the teacher have an evaluation to the pupils through quiiz
using computer.
2.4 Authentic
assessment
In the end of every
subject there are evaluation about the topic. ix ways to use authentic
assessment math in the classroom based on my observation are performance
assessment, short investigations, open-response questions, self-assessment,
multiple-choice questions, and portofolios. And sometimes teacher gave
assignment to student for better understood.
Teaching Plan
1.1
Curriculum
For
the teaching plan, I follow the curriculum from this country (Philippines). I
used K12, this curriculum comes from Ministry of Education in Philippines.
There are domains development based on the K12 for the kindergarten class. Based
on my major, in Indonesia we call it lesson plan, but in this kindergarten we
call it blocks of time. In this kindergarten, both of blocks of time and lesson
plan are different.
There are four "phases" during
the implementation of the new system. These are:
·
Phase
I: Laying the Foundations. Its goal is to finally implement the
universal kindergarten,
and the "development of the (entire) program".
·
Phase
II: Modeling and Migration. Its goal is to promote the enactment of the
basic education law, to finally start of the phased implementation of the new
curriculum for Grades 1 to 10, and for the modeling of the senior high
school.
·
Phase
III: Complete Migration. Its goal is to finally implement the Grades 11
and 12 or the senior high school, and to signal the end of migration to
the new educational system.
·
Phase
IV: Completion of the Reform. Its goal is to complete the implementation
of the K–12 education system
In terms of preparing the resources, specifically
classrooms, teacher items, textbooks, seats, and water and sanitation
improvements, the following table shows the accomplished material from 2010 to
2014 and those planned for 2015.

Observation on Teacher(s)
4.1 Planning
for teaching
I observe in preschool class
(kindergarten and nursery), grade 2 and grade 6 in PSU Laboraturium Integrated
School- Elementary. This is from kindergarten class.
4.2 Preparing
lessons and materials
About the lessons and materials, I think
they prepare it well. One day before they teaching they check all the
materials, so the lessons for that day will be success.
4.3 Teaching
in class
Almost all of the teachers call the
attention of the pupils, they are not grumpy to the pupils, they just firm to
the pupils. Then almost of all the pupils gonna be a participant during the
lesson.
4.4 Measurement
and Evaluation
Everyday Teacher Gjeuvenchi have a
reward for her pupils in kindergarten, if the pupils gonna be a good pupils for
that day, they will have a big stamp star but if they are noisy for that day,
they just have a small stamp star.
Teaching Practice
5.1
Procedures of teaching
Before
the day of the teaching, I make a block of time then discuss it with Teacher
Gjevenchi (Teacher Class in Kindergarten). I also make some media for the day
of the lesson to inovate the lesson process.
5.2 Time
management and organizing activities
I
use block of time to manage and organize the activities. I found the different
of time management in Indonesia’s kindergarten and in this kindergarten. In
Indonesia, we just spent 2 hours in school, but here we take 3 hours.
Same
like in Indonesia, in this kindergarten there is also physical excercise to
begin the lesson, I introduce the pupils penguin dance. They practice the
penguin dance and they look very happy. After that checking attendence, wether
check, and daily check. The pupils love to sing, so to attract the pupils, I
use some song. Then we discuss the topics for that day. For the pupils
activity, I prefer make an art activity, some worksheet and project based
learning during one day.

5.3 Problem-solving
Teacher
Gjevenchi still help me to open the lesson for that day, because every morning
in the opening lesson they will sing Philippines National Anthem also
paminumpa/oath which use Tagalog. Sometimes, Teacher Gjevenchi also help me to
communication with the pupils, cause the pupils can’r speak English, whenever
they understand what I say.
5.4 Classroom
management
After
the pupils enter the class, they take their bag in their table. I sing to
attract and give instruction to the pupils to take their mattress and sit in
front of the class. When they will do their art activity, I give instruction to
them to sit in their chair. When the teachers come to noisy, then I will sing a
song.
